Trees4Future visits encourage networking

Researchers from three EFI member organisations were among a group of five visitors to EFI in December as part of the Trees4Future project’s Transnational Access Programme. Participants received support to spend a week in Joensuu working with EFI’s ToSIA – Tool for Sustainability Impact Assessment, a decision support tool for the forestry sector.

Upcoming ThinkForest event: Integrating biodiversity conservation in forest management

Call for experts!

European Commission is currently looking to expand its evaluator database with experts who have experience in multi-actor projects where scientific and practical knowledge are combined. The goal is to substantially increase the number of specialists from agricultural and forestry sectors. This call is open to experts of any nationality with a high level of professional expertise in the relevant fields.

Start-up project of European Forest Risk Facility aims to connect knowledge

European forests are increasingly exposed to various disturbances which can be of abiotic or biotic nature. When being of more ‘catastrophic’ nature they can strongly disrupt targeted forest management goals and have severe consequences on wood production, timber markets, and environmental services such as water purification and soil protection. Policy makers and scientists have recognized the need for action towards mainstreaming risks as an integral part of sustainable forest management. The FRISK GO start-up project works towards a European Forest Risk Facility that addresses the issues at hand.
