Risto Päivinen re-appointed as Director of EFI

The Board of EFI has re-appointed Prof.Dr. Risto Päivinen as Director of EFI for the years 2011-2015. During his term as Director, the Institute has grown significantly and diversified its activities. In addition to its Headquarters, the Institute has five Regional Offices in Europe and a Facility Office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia . This year, the budget will have grown to 8.5 million euros and activities will include policy advice in fields such as EU FLEGT.

Ireland ratified EFI Convention

Ireland has ratified the Convention on the European Forest Institute. The Convention on EFI has now been ratified by a total of 22 European countries.

Future directions of European forest policy framework at EFI 2010 Annual Conference

EFI 2010 Annual Conference will be organised on 15 September in Dresden, Germany. The programme of the day starts with decision making session where the EFI member organisations are presented with the reports from the past year and get to be involved in the future plans and strategic discussions concerning the institute and its activities. The afternoon is dedicated to a seminar on the future directions of European forest policy framework and especially the potential contributions by EFI. The keynote speakers include representatives from the European Commission DG Agri and Rural Development, DG Environment and Forest Europe.
