SUMFOREST meeting took place in Joensuu

The SUMFOREST ERA-NET ((SUstainable forest management; Multifunctional Forestry, European Forest Policy) held its 2nd Management Committee meeting and the first Task 2.1 meeting in Joensuu 17-18 June. The transnational ERA-NET project aims to enhance co-operation and coordination of forest research activities carried out at regional and national levels, and to build new cooperation arrangements with EU the neighbourhood regions, in order to reduce fragmentation and maximise the impact of research activities on sustainable forest management and multifunctional forestry.

The coordinator of the project is the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management of Austria. EFI is the vice-coordinator of the project and it leads the WP on foresight on policy needs, as well as the task of developing a comprehensive method for mapping forest research initiatives and transnational cooperation, and the task of establishing cooperation with Russia and Eastern partnership countries.

SUMFOREST has 23 partners from 15 EU member states, three associated states and two international institutions.
