The EFI held its Annual Conference last week in Istanbul, in the magnificent University of Istanbul. The sessions included a seminar on Green Economy and a decision-making session of the EFI member organisations.

Results are in from EFI Board members election

The EFI Annual Conference has re-elected Prof. Jørgen Bo Larsen (Denmark) to the EFI Board for the period 2012-2015. Prof. Larsen remains the current Chair of the Board. In addition, Prof. Tomasz Zawiła-Niedźwiecki (left in the photo), Director, Forest Research Institute (Poland) was elected as a new Board member for the period 2012-2015.The Board and EFI warmly thank outgoing Board member Prof. Jim Lynch OBE (UK) (right in the photo) for his invaluable contribution and commitment to EFI’s activities during his time in office. Severe economic loss for European forest land expected by 2100

By 2100 climate change is expected to reduce the economic value of forest land by 14 to 50%, which equates to a potential damage of several hundred billion euros unless effective countermeasures are taken. This is the conclusion of the first pan-European study on the economic effects of climate change on forest land.

New EFI Policy Brief focuses on Mediterranean forest research area

The future EU Forest Strategy in the emerging forest-related policy framework

The ThinkForest discussion event took place on 18 September at the European Parliament. The gathering focused on the development of a future EU forest strategy, and its context in a forest-related policy framework. It enabled the process of developing the strategy and the draft document itself to be presented to a broader audience, in order to be able to intake ideas at its earliest stage.
