New SAB members: Prof. Dr. Karl Hogl and Prof. Dr. Markku Kanninen

In their meetings 1-2 October in Istanbul, the SAB shortlisted 4 candidates of which the Board appointed Prof. Dr. Karl Hogl from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Department of Economics and Social Sciences, Austria and Prof. Dr. Markku Kanninen from the University of Helsinki, Viikki Tropical Resources Institute, Finland as new SAB members. It was seen that with their wide expertise in the fields of FLEGT and REDD as well as in policy and economics, the new members will fulfill the current needs and strengthen the knowledge base of the SAB.

The main functions of the SAB are to
• monitor the scientific activity of the Institute for the purpose of quality assurance.
• anticipate future research needs and stimulate research initiatives to meet those needs.
• advise the Directors, the Board and the scientific staff of the Institute on research, strategies and networking.
