Presentation of the handbook “Prevention of Large Wildfires using the Fire Types Concept"

The aim of the handbook is to set the context of the large wildfire problem in Europe and deliver a planning tool for forest and land managers for the prevention of large wildfires. This handbook includes the integration of fire use into forest planning in order to prevent large wildfires. It can be used as a tool to complement and support forest policies. Pau Costa, the lead author of the handbook, tragically died during the Horta de St Joan Fire in 2009. The Pau Costa Foundation on Fire Ecology and Management was named after him.
