Thinking out of the box – advocating FLEGT and REDD+ topics into the wider picture of governance research
The first web-based stakeholder consultation was held in April and May to identify and prioritise research questions. By the survey deadline, some 280 people had contributed with ideas. Expert authors used these inputs as the basis for the current draft. Following the EFI Annual Conference in Uppsala, EFI Associate and Affiliate Members were invited to review the draft agenda. If the invitation did not reach you in your organisation, then please send an email to info(at)euflegt.efi.int when you want to contribute with your comments latest by 31 October. We encourage you to involve your colleagues and to submit a joint review.
Even while the agenda is under development, we have already used an opportunity to advocate for a number of FLEGT and REDD+ related forest governance topics to be included into the next FP7 call. With enthusiastic cooperation from EFI Scientific Advisory Board and EFI member
organisations' experts we have been able to draft four call topics and submit them to DG Research at short notice. There are still many hurdles to be taken before the topics will make it to the final call but we do hope that research funding can be dedicated to this important field of research. Fingers crossed! Before the end of the year, EFI Associate and Affiliate Members will be contacted to help us map the research capacities and experience with FLEGT and REDD+ related research.
Whatever research topic may eventually end up being funded through the FP7, it will be very important to develop a strategic route map for advocating the full implementation of the agenda.
