Marc Palahí appointed as Deputy Director of EFI

marc_palahi_siw.jpg : 32.4365234375KbDr. Marc Palahí has been appointed as Deputy Director of the European Forest Institute. Dr. Palahí will start his new 5-year position as of 1 January 2013 and will be stationed in the EFI Headquarters (HQ) in Joensuu. He will be responsible for the overall coordination and integration of EFI’s strategic activities related to research and policy support. This consists of strengthening the R&D capacity at the EFI Headquarters and the overall coordination role of EFI HQ regarding research and policy support activities within EFI. He will also continue to work on strengthening the role of EFI in enhancing the science-policy dialogue across all the stages of the policy processes and coordinating the presence of EFI in existing European political structures and initiatives.

ThinkForest Policy study to be presented in the European Parliament: European Forest Governance - issues at stake and the way forward

An international team of renowned authors are currently preparing a study on European forest governance. Three meetings of core authors have been held so far in order to systematically assess knowledge on the status of European forest governance and its challenges ahead. The latest meeting was organised in September at the Technical University Munich, Germany. The group of authors including a number of additional experts is currently preparing the latest draft report that will be reviewed and finalised in January.

EFI Winter and Summer School 2013: Making values work – Sustaining multiple values in managed forests

EFI Winter and Summer School (WSS) is designed to integrate two weeks of direct teaching separated by several months during which students prepare individual work. During the first week the students will be introduced to the topic by lectures, work in groups and outline a joint product towards which they work during the WSS. Between the on-site weeks, students will have assigned tasks including e.g. the preparation of annotated literature reviews, case study reports, or targeted studies serving the joint WSS product.
