Green growth from forests can speed up a low carbon economy

“A low carbon economy is possible in Europe”
concluded participants at a conference on green growth from forests in Brussels, Belgium in the beginning of December. Experts from research and development, companies and policy makers from different European regions shared innovative solutions to the challenges they face. Although the role of the forest sector varies considerably across Europe, its contribution is important to achieving European-level targets, for example on the reduction of emissions, and the transition to a greener and more resource-efficient economy.

Addressing legal reform needs as countries prepare for REDD+

On 28 November, the EU REDD Facility organised a side event at the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference in Doha to promote better understanding of the needs of countries looking to implement REDD+, and to spur an exchange of experiences as to how countries have been dealing with REDD+ governance questions, in particular with regard to legal reform and law enforcement.

Ex-Post Evaluation of the European Forest Action Plan published

A report evaluating the implementation of the EU Forest Action Plan has been published. The evaluation was carried out from November 2011-May 2012 by a team from EFI (Project coordinator), the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and the Forest Sciences Centre of Catalonia (CTFC).

EFI has published two new sets of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the EU Timber Regulation. The first set of FAQs focuses on the role of certification when performing due diligence and the enforcement of the EU Timber Regulation.
