EFI Liaison Officer in Brussels appointed

Dr. Harald Mauser, Austria, has been appointed as the Liaison Officer of the EFI Liaison Office in Brussels as of 1 February. This has been possible thanks to the in-kind contribution of Austria.

Upcoming ThinkForest events

In April the ThinkForest Forum organises two events in the European Parliament. A seminar on 'Opportunities and challenges in meeting renewable energy targets from forest biomass - an EU perspective' takes place on 11 April. 'Climate Change in European Forests - How to Adapt' is the title for the second seminar that is organised together with the project MOTIVE (MOdels of adapTIVE forest management) on 25 April.

EFI 20th Anniversary Publication: Call for materials

As part of the celebrations for EFI’s 20th year in 2013, we are planning a special anniversary publication. “Celebrating 20 years of forest networking in Europe” aims to give voice to EFI’s network – their memories of EFI and vision for the future. We are hoping to include short comments from key figures in EFI since 1993, staff members, representatives from Associate and Affiliate Member Organisations, Country Members and other close collaborators. We will also include photos of events over the last 20 years, particularly focusing on the Annual Conferences.

Integrating nature protection in forest management

The recently organised symposium “Integration of nature protection in forest management and its relation to other forest functions/services” gathered an international group of researchers and stakeholders to discuss forest biodiversity in commercially managed and reference forests. The symposium was held in Freiburg, Germany in late January 2013. Its outcomes will feed into further advancing the project and strengthen the ongoing work on a comprehensive publication under the European Forest Institute series ‘What Science Can Tell Us’.
