Integrating nature protection in forest management
The symposium had four main themes :
- background information on relevant principles and concepts for integrative forest management approaches;
- structural elements with a crucial impact on biodiversity conservation in forests;
- selected species groups and discussed management options for these specific groups; and
- future challenges, including climate change, invasive species and genetic diversity and their effects towards the integration of biodiversity conservation into forest management.
On the final day of the symposium, a field visit was organised for the participants to the Freiburg city forest to have on-site discussions on the local integrative management concept.
