New Head of Forest Resources and Information appointed at EFI

Dr. Nuutinen holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Geography, University of Edinburgh and a M.Sc. and Lic.Sc. (For.) from the University of Joensuu. She is currently working as a Professor in Forest Planning and Director of Research and Development Programme on Forest Resource Information Systems and Forest Planning at the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla).

Dr. Nuutinen has more than 10 years of experience in team management as well as in the coordination of research projects, programmes and networks. Her research interests are related to the development of information services based on forest inventory data and modelling systems, to be used in different types of decision making and policy making applications. She has published a total of 160 publications, and has a wide lecturing and teaching experience. She has previously been a co-ordinator of IUFRO 4.02.07 Working Unit ‘Large-scale forest inventory and scenario modelling’.

The European Forest Institute is an international research organisation with Headquarters in Joensuu, Finland, and three Regional Offices in different locations in Europe. The Institute is growing intensively, and two more Regional Offices are planned to be launched during this year. Prof. Dr. Nuutinen will be leading one of the Institute’s four Research Programmes.
