Synergies meeting among EFI member organisations was a success
Over the course of two days, 38 participants from 11 European countries presented their work across a range of disciplines and themes in forest governance research. Together they identified opportunities for synergies between research and policy support work along the way.
“It was a very inspiring and stimulating event, as every participant had the opportunity to share their experience in forest governance work within a unique community of experts,” said Heiko Liedeker, Head of EFI’s FLEGT and REDD Unit.
The meeting demonstrated that there is a considerable body of research-based expertise on forest governance within the EFI networks and that a platform for collaboration in this field can be very useful. There is room for further cross fertilization between policy processes and research, and participants discussed several ideas for furthering this.
“EFI is showing real potential as policy learning platform by bringing together top scientists and experts with experience in policy implementation and its facilitation” said Marc Palahí, EFI’s Assistant Directory for Policy Support.
