Creating a new generation of forest leaders
Twenty young professionals with leadership potential will have the chance to interact with their global peers on a week-long intensive programme which brings together international speakers from science, policy and business. The programme will be held in Joensuu, Finland in December 2014.
Marc Palahi, EFI’s Deputy Director said: “The world is changing faster than ever and the forest-based sector too - a new generation of business, policy and science leaders is needed to unlock the potential of the forest sector .”
The YLP is aimed at future leaders working in the research and development, governance or business side of the forest sector or a related area, whose organisation works in or with Russia.
Those chosen to take part in the programme will have the opportunity to share practical experience and advance their interdisciplinary knowledge, while working together to develop leadership skills and collaborative solutions. They will learn about the opportunities and challenges of the Russian forest sector in a global context, and explore innovative policies, technologies and institutions to promote sustainable forest management and the Russian forest sector’s contribution to the bioeconomy. The programme also includes a day-long practical foresight exercise, which will focus on building futures for the forest-based sector.
The call for applications to the Young Leadership Programme is now open, and interested candidates should apply online by 31 May 2014. Scholarships are available to participants from non-profit organisations.
