Mediterranean Forestry Week

The first Mediterranean Forest Week was successfully held in Antalya from 14th to 16th April. 130 scientists, representatives of NGOs, governments and private owners took part in the different seminars and workshops.

Experts Meeting to prepare a position paper on Mediterranean Forests in the context of the Union for the Mediterranean

Within the context of the Enlarged Executive Committee of Silva Mediterranea, during the first Mediterranean Forest Week, held from 14-16 April 2010 in Antalya, Turkey, an experts’ meeting was organized with support from the French Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries for the preparation of a position paper to ensure that Mediterranean forests are put on the agenda of the Union for the Mediterranean.

EFIMED PhD Award to the best PhD on Mediterranean forests

Dr. Trevor Keenan defended on May 2009 his thesis on "Carbon and water fluxes from the terrestrial biosphere". He presented his main resultsin Antalya .

A tree for the future

P4169290_160x120.jpg : 27.4658203125KbParticipants of the field trip were invited by the General Directorate of Forestry in Antalya to plant a tree at the new fire fighting training center.
During the visits the experimental plots of Pinus brutia of SAFRI were introduced as well as the panoramic view from the fire observation tower. It ended with a guided walk across the ruins of Termessos.

EFIMED at the Near East Forestry Commission

Dr. Marc Palahí attended the on 5-6th April the FAO-organised meeting in Hammamet (Tunisia), focused on “Forests, Pastures and Adaptation to Climate Changes". He presented the Mediterranean Agenda and the AGORA project to the representatives from 20 Middle Eastern countries.
