Mediterranean Forests' Week

This year EFIMED annual progress meeting and scientific seminar will be organised together with the Enlarged Executive Committee meeting of FAO Silva Mediterranea. The event is hosted by SAFRI (South-western Anatolian Forest Research Institute). The side event will be hosted by AIFM (International Association for Mediterranean Forests) and Plan Bleu.

One of the outputs of the week will be a declaration on Mediterranean forests to be presented at the Union for the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean Forests Week will bring together the forest research community and relevant stakeholders (i.e. policy-makers, managers, forest owners’ representatives, NGOs) to improve the science-policy dialogue.

AGORA project which was kicked-off in Barcelona on 15th-16th of February is an EU Support Action (Capacities Programme) that implements an international coordinated twining action plan to transfer know-how and experience from selected forest research centres of excellence in EU’s Member States (INRA, ISA, UNIPD), Turkey (KTU) and two research entities from Tunisia (INRGREF) and Morocco (ENFI). The project is coordinated by EFIMED and will last for three years. The kick-off meeting was attended by 30 participants.

AGORA project emphasizes the importance of bringing together scientists and policy-makers to build new forest research capacities in Tunisia and Morocco based on the actual management and policy challenges as well as the existing gaps of knowledge in North-Africa.
