The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza is organising the Advanced Course “Drought forecasting and its use in informed decision making”.
The course is jointly organized with the DEWFORA Project of the European Commission (Improved drought early warning and forecasting to strengthen preparedness and adaptation to droughts in Africa) of the Seventh Framework Programme.
The aim of this course is to introduce the concept of drought forecasting as an effective measure in managing drought. The course will introduce participants to the state of the art in meteorological and hydrological drought forecasting, focusing on the methods used as well as how to interpret the forecasts and the uncertainty in the forecasts in support of informed decision making. The course will use case studies to illustrate these aspects including the results of the DEWFORA project.
Candidates may apply for scholarships covering registration fees, and for scholarships covering the cost of travel and full board accommodation in the Hall of Residence on the Aula Dei Campus. Priority will be given to candidates from drought prone African and non-EU Mediterranean countries.
