World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists
The 5th World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists took place in Istanbul from 28 June - 2 July, 2014. The event, held every four years, gathers researchers and practitioners related to a broad range of topics concerning environmental and resource economics including forestry, environmental valuation, climate change policy and environmental taxes and instruments.
Research from these varied fields was presented in parallel and poster sessions at the Lütfi Kırdar Convention & Exhibition Centre in Istanbul. Additionally, policy sessions engaged the audience in discussion on themes such as the policy use of natural capital accounting or the development of contemporary standards for economic valuation.
EFIMED’s Elsa Varela presented a scientific paper on the social preferences for fire prevention management. This paper, as well as the complete list of presentations from Congress attendees, can be found on the event webpage.
Next year, the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), co-organisers of the World Congress, will celebrate their annual conference in Helsinki.
