PROFORBIOMED is a MED 2011 strategic project seeking mechanisms to promote forest biomass in Mediterranean areas. There are 17 partners from Greece, Slovenia, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. The project is structured around 6 work packages ranging from forest management to the creation of intelligent networks (Smart-grids).
Among the aims of the project is establishing two regional offices for the promotion of biomass in the Mediterranean. On the eastern side is the University of Western Macedonia in Greece and, in the western Mediterranean, the office will be located in Enguera, Spain. These offices will function as centres for diversification and promotion of activities related to forest biomass and its value as a clean and sustainable fuel.
