A FORESTERRA delegation travelled to Australia, one of the Mediterranean Climate Area countries included in the project, from 16-25 February. The aim of the visit was to enhance collaboration and strengthen research activities by promoting joint scientific research in forestry and specifically to discuss collaboration with Mediterranean Climate Areas outside Europe.
The FORESTERRA team members held meetings and events including a reception at the Embassy of Spain in Australia where they were received by the ambassador, Enrique Viguera. This reception was also attended by members of the Delegation from the European Union in Australia.
The agenda also included meetings with representatives from funding agencies and researchers from universities and research institutes in Australia, including the University of Melbourne, the Australian Bureau of Agricultural Sciences, the Department of Agriculture, the Australian National University, the National Genetics Research Centre and the Australian Forest Products Association, among others.
The delegation consisted of David González, coordinator FORESTERRA, Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), Anabela Isidro, Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Inazio Martinez de Arano, Director of the Mediterranean Regional Office of the European Forest Institute (EFIMED) and Silvano Fares, Agricultural Research Council (CRA), Research Center for the Soil-Plant System.
