Newforex Results

"Instruments to preserve or restore woodlands and to improve the supply of forest goods and services" were presented as a part of the Newforex outcomes.

Over 200 participants attended the meeting in Tlemcen, Algeria on 18-19 March 2013, including scientists, technicians, forestry officials and national and international organisations.

The presented results indicate that regulative frameworks allow the establishment of PES (-like) schemes, yet implementation is lacking. Final recommendations were made, including that public administrations have the responsibility for changing their culture and general approach from a passive role in controlling resources, to an active partnership in rural development.
