The Catalan Minister Lluis Recorder signed the final agreement to finance the rehabilitation of Sant Leopold Pavilion at the Sant Pau campus in Barcelona. Sant Leopold Pavilion will be the new location for EFI Offices in Barcelona. EFI’s Director Risto Päivinen and Assistant Director Marc Palahí both attended the signing ceremony. “The office will host about 30 EFI staff members and the campus offers excellent facilities for meetings and networking ’, stated Director Päivinen.

The estimated costs for the rehabilitation are about 6.4 million Euros. Spain has mobilized EU FEDER funds plus national and Catalan funds in order to provide EFI with top international building code standards.

The historical campus of Sant Pau belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Sant Pau campus will also host other international organisations such as the United Nations University. The location consequently offers excellent international networking possibilities, particularly in the field of forest and environment.

EFI’s new offices will host EFIMED, EFI’s Policy Support Office and the Barcelona-based team working for the EU Flegt and REDD Facilities, which are hosted and managed by EFI.
