SylvaMED Project Results
SylvaMED is a European territorial cooperation project, part of the MED transnational program facilitating innovative integration of forest environmental services into regional policies through case studies demonstrating that Payments for Environmental Services (PES) and Market Based Instruments (MBI) systems are feasible and sustainable both environmentally and economically in our Mediterranean rural communities.
Based on pilot project results from case studies taking place in Catalonia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain, the project has developed several tools for policy-makers and practitioners:
• EFI publication: What Science Can Tell Us 1 - Water for Forests and People in the Mediterranean – A Challenging Balance (Available in English, French, Spanish)
• EFI Policy Brief No.7 Payments for Environmental Services: A Way Forward for Mediterranean Forests? (available in English, French, Greek, Italian and Spanish)
• The Catalogue on Best Practices - a practical step-by-step guide to the implementation of PES projects, based on the regional case studies
• The Green Book - a dissemination tool on PES themes aimed at policymakers and other stakeholders (available in 7 languages: English, French, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Greek and Slovenian) is now available in PDF and printed copy.
