Regional stakeholders meeting: Fluctuation and yield loss of Mediterranean pine nut crops

The StarTree project partner INIA-CIFOR, jointly with the Regional Government of Castile-Leon and the regional Forest Owners Association ASFOVA, members of the regional stakeholder group, will have the next October 1st a meeting and public discussion about recently observed yield loss in quantity and quality of Mediterranean stone pine cones. Both the INIA-CIFOR and the forest administration have followed the annual pine cone production since 1996, which shows strong masting and a dramatically decreasing seed output in recent years. One of the possible causes are damages caused by cone boring or sucking insects. In the meeting in October, stakeholders of the province will discuss the problem as well as possible solving strategies.
