Aguaybosques_intro_160x112.jpg : 24.4306640625KbThanks to collaboration with the Center for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF), the European Forest Institute (EFI) has translated the first book of its series "What science can tell us" into Spanish. "Agua para los bosques y la sociedad en el Mediterráneo. Un difícil equilibrio" was presented in the emblematic Gaudí building of La Pedrera on October 28th in the presence of Mr. Josep Escorihuela, the general director of Environment of Catalonia, Mr. Risto Päivinen, the director of EFI, Mr. Miquel Rafa, director of Environment area of the CatalunyaCaixa (second largest savings bank in Catalonia), Ms. Glòria Domínguez, director of the Forest Sciences Center of Catalonia and Mr. Marc Palahí, EFIMED Head of Office.

The publication is joint work of 38 authors from 15 countries. Approximately 80 attendees learned about the new paradigm on forest management in relation to the water balance of basins, given the ecophysiological constraints. The challenges of the raising population and its water demands and the equilibria to be found in green and blue water. Questions raised about the field experiences of forest management practices and runoff, the traditional myths on the topic and the challenges and potentials of the SylvaMED pilot case under development in Catalonia.

In this presentation, the task of the three organising entities was exceled by the General Director in placing Catalonia in the map of excellence in forest science and knowledge transfer. It was emphasized the capacity of working together among the research centers.
