EFIMED advocates for forest research in the European Parlament

Organised by The European Bureau for Conservation and Development (EBCD) jointly with the subgroup "Forestry" of the European Parlament intergroup on climate change, biodiversity and sustainable development organised on the past June 29th in Brussels the conference "Towards an integrated EU forest strategy?". Dr. Marc Palahi took part of it by presenting "Reinforcing European research, a prerequisite for efficient actions".

ERA NET on Mediterranean Forest research launched

The European Commission lunches a call for a specific ERA-NET on Mediterranean Forest research:
KBBE.2011.1.2-08: Forest Research in the Mediterranean Region – Mandatory ICPC (Mediterranean partner countries)
The ERA-NET is expected to reinforce scientific cooperation on forests throughout the Mediterranean area (EU and non-EU countries) thereby fighting fragmentation and maximising the impact of research activities on sustainable forest management, including management of forest resources to mitigate and adapt to climatic threats.

With the support of the Southern Europe Union of Foresters (USSE), EFI has published the Greek and Spanish version of the discussion paper "Living with wildfires: what can science tell us?"

AGORA: decision‐makers and stakeholders from North Africa met over the scientific challenges and needs of Mediterranean forests

Last June 3rd Rabat hosted a workshop with key Moroccan and Tunisian actors in forestry. It was part of the AGORA project, which focused on the identification of gaps of knowledge from the point of view of stakeholders and decision‐makers from these countries. With the results, AGORA will fine‐tune the objectives of development of scientific capacities in the framework of the project.

Economic efficiency at the debate on fire prevention

Last May, Rhodes hosted the workshop on the "Assessment of forest fire risks and innovative strategies for fire prevention". Mr. Robert Mavsar presented the "Evaluation of economic efficiency of fire prevention". Presentations and conclussions are available at the website of the event.
