REQUIREMENTS

Dates of PhD finalization

The candidate should have successfully defended his/her thesis during the academic year 2008/2009, that is, defended from 1st September 2008 until 31st August 2009.

Type of thesis

The PhD should be structured by articles. Monograph-type thesis will not be eligible.

Language

English. Main articles of the thesis (at least half) should be in English.

Peer-reviewed articles

 At least one article should have been already accepted in an international scientific journal. More articles accepted and published would be an asset.

Topic of the thesis

The topic of the doctoral thesis should fit within the priorities of the Mediterranean Forest Research Agenda (MFRA):

1. Impact of climate and land-use change on Mediterranean forest ecosystems functioning: assessing and monitoring main physical and biological processes including biodiversity
2. Integration of the risk of forest fires in land use and landscape planning and management
3. Policy, economic and institutional aspects for sustainable provision of forest goods and services
4. Forest and woodlands in the context of integrated management of land resources: models and decision systems for optimising multi-objective and multi-actor problems
The thesis should geographically focus on the Mediterranean region and not on other Mediterranean climatic regions.

Candidate’s origin

There is no origin restrictions for applicants; applicant can be located everywhere, but working on the Mediterranean region.

Age

Young scientists. The definition of 'young' can be reasonably flexible, but the nominee should be climbing the research ladder and not yet near the top.
