Summer school - "Do Mediterranean forests compite for water resources? A scale approach from leaf to landscape"

Organisers: EFIMED and MAICh
Date: 23 - 28 June 2008
Venue: Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (Crete), Greece

Objectives

Water is one of the main limiting factors for Mediterranean‐type ecosystems. Changes in annual precipitation and/or annual rainfall patterns are affecting negatively to Mediterranean forests. Less rainfall and uneven episodes of severe rainfall are expected according to the outputs of most General Circulation Models (GCMs).

The aims of the Summer School are to understand the ecophysiological role of water in Mediterranean forests, to discuss the trade‐off between water yield and water used in evapo‐transpiration and to explore how to adapt forest management to the new climate frame to optimize water yield and forest productivity and to provide the fundamentals for an ecophysiological based integrated watershed management.
