Young Leadership Programme on Forest-Based Bioeconomy: Focus on Russia

alis_photo_-_fotolia.jpg : 85Kb The Young Leadership Programme on Forest-Based Bioeconomy: Focus on Russia (YLP) is aimed at young professionals working in the research and development, governance, administration or business side of the forest sector, or a related area. The 5-day programme offers a unique opportunity for young professionals with leadership potential to learn about the emerging opportunities and challenges facing forest-based bioeconomy in Russia, interact with a network of global peers and experts, and share practical experience through group exercises.

The 2016 YLP took place on 28 November - 2 December in Joensuu, Finland.

SUMFOREST (SUstainable forest management; Multifunctional Forestry, European Forest Policy) is a transnational ERA-NET programme, reinforcing scientific cooperation on European forests and building new cooperation arrangements with EU neighbourhood regions. Its aim is to reduce fragmentation and maximise the impact of research activities on sustainable forest management and multifunctional forestry.

The Sustainable forest management – research capacities and priorities workshop was held on 19 November 2014 in Kazan, Russia.

EFI's Project Centre RUSFOR is a wide network of Russian forest organisations which focuses on forest policy and governance issues. RUSFOR started its five-year term at the beginning of 2014, under the coordination of St. Petersburg State Forest Technical University.

Initially, RUSFOR will focus on capacity building, for example organising yearly summer schools to support a new generation of Russian scientists, and better connect them to European institutions. Similarly, it is a platform which will enable European scientists and students to be better connected to Russian institutions.

Russian forest sector governance Summer School

The EFI/FTU/UNIPD 2013 summer school aimed to improve the knowledge of early stage researchers, policy makers and decision-makers from Russia and Europe about forest sector governance in Russia. The topics covered included: Russian forest policy and governance, EU legislation affecting EU-Russian forest sector opportunities, foresight of Russian forest sector, main Russian forest-related challenges and implications at the pan-European level.

The Summer School on Russian Forest Governance in a European Context was held in July 2013 in St Petersburg.
