The European Forest Information Scenario Model - EFISCEN
EFISCEN is a forest resource projection model. It is used to gain insight into the future development of European forests for issues such as:
- sustainable management regimes;
- wood production possibilities;
- nature oriented management;
- climate change impacts
- natural disturbances; and
- carbon balance issues.
Through its underlying detailed forest inventory database, the projections provide these insights at varying scales, thus serving forest managers and policy makers at the national and international levels.
Detailed information on EFISCEN history, methodology, input data, model ouptuts and other issues can be accessed by clicking on one of the items in the menu on the left hand side.
Since 1996, EFISCEN has been jointly developed and applied at Alterra and EFI.
EFISCEN is one of 28 research facilities (models, genetic databanks, laboratory facilities) that are being promoted to researchers via the Transnational Access of the Trees4Future Research Infrastructure project. Researchers can apply to use the facilities and visit the organizations supplying the facilities to receive training. Support for travel and subsistence is offered. Trees4Future Transnational Access
