Furthermore, a Young Scientist session is planned to be organised within each EFI Annual Conference to provide an opportunity to a new generation of forest scientists to present their achievements to EFI Network. This session will take place for the first time at the EFI 2014 Annual Conference.

An open seminar on ‘Future of Bioeconomy in Europe’ takes place on 11 September. The European forest-based sector is going through biggest structural changes in recent history. Next twenty years are likely to change the sector much more than the past two decades. Many of these changes originate outside the sector itself, such as the need to transform societies towards more resource-efficient bioeconomy, the new economic role of Europe in globalized world, and impact of new technologies. Amongst confirmed speakers are Mr. Göran Persson, President of EFI’s ThinkForest Forum and the former prime minister of Sweden, and Prof. Hans Bruyninckx, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency. An interpretation into Spanish and Basque will be available at this seminar.
