Options and best practices for the use and recognition of third party organisations entrusted with certain responsibilities in the framework of EUTR legislation
Stakeholder Consultation on 21 March in Brussels
DG Environment of the European Commission has contracted the European Forest Institute (EFI) to carry out the “Support study for development of the non-legislative acts provided for in the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market". This study aims to identify the most efficient ways to fulfil the requirements of the EUTR with respect to risk assessment and risk management procedures as well as the procedures for recognition of monitoring organizations, particularly taking into account relevant best practices. EFI undertakes the assignment with two associate members, University of Padova (Italy) and Indufor (Finland).
The workshop took place at the Borschette Centre in Brussels on 21st March 2011, and presented the project and its preliminary outcomes, with particular focus on the draft support study paper on the recognition process of the monitoring organisations. It also provided a platform for comments and suggestions on the process from the stakeholders.
