Forest Policy Research Network is pleased to announce new colleague Jerbelle A. Elomina

Jerbelle A. Elomina studied Masters of Science in European Forestry at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg where she received a Diploma in MSc in Forest Sciences, and at the University of Eastern Finland where she received a Diploma in MSc in Agriculture and Forestry. During her studies, she worked on the topic of Forest Ecosystem Services (FES) frames in EU forest focused and related policies in support of the project “Decision-making Support for Forest Ecosystem Services in Europe – Value Assessment, Synergy Effects and Trade-offs” (POLYFORES) in collaboration with University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) and European Forestry Institute - Forest Policy Research Network, where she did her internship in the summer of 2018.

Jerbelle determined how EU forest focused and related policies frame FES because how FES is framed defines decisions and courses of actions. By using qualitative content analysis using Atlas.ti on 35 policy documents which consisted of policies from the sectors of forestry, biodiversity, climate, bioeconomy/trade and products, agriculture, water, research and energy, and ten expert interviews, she was able to reconstruct the frames, analyzes tradeoffs and synergies and conclude that various sectors concerned with forest use focus on their institutional interests.

An article regarding her thesis topic is underway together with her supervisor at BOKU Infer, Dr. Helga Pülzl.
