Modelling and Assessment of Forest Resources, Their Future Use and Economic Accessibility in Northwest Russia

The objectives of this project were:

  1. to gather and compile the most recent data of the present state of forests in Komi and Vologda regions and to apply a large scale forestry scenario model to assess the future development of forests under different harvesting levels;
  2. to analyze the location of forest resources in Novgorod region;
  3. to assess the reliability of forest inventory information and its consequent impact on forest development scenarios;
  4. to assess the geographical distribution of wood harvesting at different felling levels taking into consideration road accessibility and transportation costs at the enterprise (leshoz) level;
  5. to build a synthesis on the availability of wood resources and their economic accessibility with constructed geographical maps over the region.
