The aim of the project is to conduct a review of the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (MCPFE) process and produce a report on the findings of the review, including a set of concrete recommendations for action based on the findings.

The overall aim of the review as a whole is to provide the basis for future decisions on the strategic direction of future work of the MCPFE. The main focus of the review is on the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of the work done by the MCPFE. The geographic scope of the review is from global (international bodies and processes) to local and the focus is on the pan-European region. Time scope is set to be from 1990 to the present, with a view towards the implications of the findings for the future. The expected result of the strategic review is a concise report on the findings, including a set of recommendations for action.
