The role of forests is now highlighted also in the work of the agricultural European Innovation Partnership (EIP-AGRI) which works to foster competitive and sustainable farming and forestry that 'achieves more and better from less'. The recently established EIP-AGRI Focus Group "New forest practices & tools for adaptation and mitigation of climate change" meets for the first time on 20–21 June 2017 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Dr Marcus Lindner from EFI is the co-ordinating expert of the focus group.

The Focus Group is looking for new practices and tools that can improve the climate mitigation and adaptation potential of EU forests. It will address ways to enhance mitigation and adaptation potential of EU forests, while taking into account that forests provide multiple functions and services to EU citizens. The group should also consider trade-offs between mitigation and adaptation, as sometimes addressing mitigation in the short term may affect long-term adaptation capacity.

EIP-AGRI Focus Groups are temporary groups of selected experts focusing on a specific subject, sharing knowledge and experience. The groups bring together scientists and practitioners from all European regions to explore practical innovative solutions. Each Focus Group meets twice and produces a recommendations and outcomes report. More info can be found here.
