On August 18, the contract for a new programme called Regional-ASEAN Forest Governance support programme (FLEGT Asia) was signed between EFI and the European Commission represented by the EU Delegation to Indonesia. The three-year five million euro programme will be implemented by EFI’s Asia regional office in Kuala Lumpur. It will contribute to enhance and demonstrate good forest governance, monitoring and sustainable forest management across ASEAN member states and in the Asia region. In particular support to FLEGT Voluntary Partnership Agreement processes in Indonesia, Lao PDR, Vietnam and Thailand, and regional work on FLEGT in Asia will be provided. A small component will deal with best practices on sustainable landscapes at national and sub-national level.

Work already started by supporting the European Commission in technical meetings in Lao PDR and Thailand this week, and by participating in stakeholder and technical meetings in other Asian countries.
