Georgy Safonov is a Principal Scientist in the Bioeconomy Programme and he leads Sustainable Markets and Society Team. Prior to joining EFI in 2021, Georgy worked as a director of environmental economics centre and associate professor at HSE University. He participated in numerous research and capacity building projects initiated by World Bank, GEF, UNDP, UNEP, OSCE, FAO, and others.
Georgy holds a PhD degree in Economics from Moscow State University.
He was a member of official delegations at the UNFCCC conferences and meetings since 1999. His research interests relate to sustainable development, bioeconomy, environmental economics, climate change.
