Spurring INnovations for forest eCosystem sERvices in Europe (SINCERE) is a four-year project funded through the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme. From 2018 to 2022, SINCERE will develop novel policies and new business models by connecting knowledge and expertise from practice, science and policy, across Europe and beyond.
Social innovation (SI) encompasses the new forms of interrelating which aim at solving shared problems and achieve common goals through strengthened collaboration. This social structure is especially relevant in rural areas to overcome provisioning, commercial or environmental challenges i.a. Consumer-producer networks, associations, or cooperatives exemplify some SI.
SIMWOOD aimed to promote collaborative wood mobilisation in the context of multifunctional forest management across European forest regions. It targeted forest owners and stakeholders to spread integrated, transferable solutions and viable policies that can unlock immobile forest resources, and ensure sustainable forest functions.
The four year EU FP7 project Valerie (VALorising European Research for Innovation in agriculturE and forestry) started on 1 January and the kick off meeting took place 16-17 January in Wageningen, the Netherlands. This project brings together 14 partners from 6 countries across Europe.
Many EU and nationally funded research projects in the fields of agriculture and forestry provide excellent results, but the outreach and translation of these results and bringing them into practice is limited.
The general objectives of the project were to create the Centre of excellence (LignoSilva) in the field of a forestry, woodprocessing and a pulp-paper complex. LignoSilva will help to strategically transform Forest-based sector of the region towards the innovation growth based on the knowledge economy (in terms of RIS 3 SK vision) and the implementation of the principles of Green Economy.
